Biking Through Trans-Himalayan Back-country

Biking in the Trans-Himalayan backcountry is an opportunity to not only test ones physical and mental strength as one moves through some harsh, rugged and truly stunning high altitude terrain but it is also an experience to witness life in some of the remotest areas preserving unique cultures.
We start this journey from Delhi and make way to Shimla in one of the most exciting train journeys across the lower and mid Himalayan ranges. The train journey from Kalka to Shimla is rated as one the best train journeys in the world. From Shimla we journey into Upper Kinnaur through some spectacular gorges on the Sutlej river all the way up to Kalpa from where we begin our biking. The ride initially goes through the upper Sutlej valley and the mighty Kinner Kailash keeps us company in and around Kalpa. We ride through the Old Hindustan Tibet road and soon meet the Spiti river at Khab, leaving the Sutlej valley that moves further into Tibet. During this journey we will travel to the worlds highest villages, visit ancient monasteries (including an over 1010 yr old one & ticking), visit a fossil centre, experience the Spitian way of life through traditional homestays and cultural performances, get an insight into the essential aspects of Spiti’s history and visit some stunning high altitude wetland areas. We then move through the stunning and graphic valley of the Chandra river and over the Kunzum and Rohtang passes into the Beas valley where our journey ends at Manali.

In terms of the biking experience this journey packs enough adrenalin for the riders coupled with opportunities to witness the culture and ecology of this unique microcosm. We spend on an average 5-6 hours biking everyday which gives us enough time and opportunity to amply explore the areas we go through.
