Mud to Kafnu over the Pin-Bhaba (Tarikhango) Pass

Rampur Bushahr was the seat of an ancient and powerful kingdom of the Rampur Rajas that controlled Spiti. The closest to an all-season trail to Spiti was the Bhaba valley. The valley gave easy and direct access to Spiti while avoiding the Kinnauri valleys that border Tibet.

The Bhaba valley borders Kullu in the west. The Kullu Rajas (kings) built forts in the Pin valley next to the Bhaba valley, in an attempt to gain control of Spiti. The ruins of one of these forts, Lyungti Khar, can still be seen.
